1. a piece forming the end; endpiece.
2. a piece added on; appendage; addition.Printing. a small decorative engraving, usually at the end of a chapter.
3. Music. a triangular block, usually of ebony, near the lower end of a violin, viola, or other stringed instrument, to which the strings are fastened.
4. a short beam, rafter, or joist built into a wall and supported by a header; tail beam.
